It’s Sunday afternoon and we’re gathering in the parking lot with a minibus full of excited Comenius boys.
We got a bunch of free tickets from Fradi. That’s not something you pass on—plus, we want to teach the boys how to cheer properly.
The Fradi eagle makes its majestic circle at the center of the pitch. The bird’s proud flight is truly impressive.
The sight captures the boys as well. The teams are already lining up, and the boys are excitedly calling out the players’ names. “Look, it’s Dibusz!” He sets up in the goal just 10 meters from us—and doesn’t make a single mistake the whole match.
“Mr Ádám… … I’m thirsty!” Mr Ádám—the Comenius school’s brilliant youth football coach—digs around in his bag and finds a drink for the boy. Just as he turns his back, the crowd bursts into cheering again: 2:0. Fradi takes the lead.
“Mr Ádám…… I’m hungry!”
Just before the third goal, here it comes again: “Uncle Ádám… I need to pee!” Off they go—and yep, goal again! Final score: 3–0 to Fradi. Uncle Ádám didn’t see a single one!
Well, that’s just how it is: a teacher is always on duty—even on the sidelines!
But the best part is still to come…
We line up to head home. Mr Ádám carefully counts the kids, and the group starts walking toward the bus. Then I suddenly notice a little boy—who doesn’t quite look like one of ours— sneak into the line and join us. “Hold up!” I shout. “Let’s count again!” Sure enough—we’ve got one extra!
In the distance, I see a father craning his neck, clearly searching. I raise my arm and point at the little boy. “Is it him you’re looking for?”
The wave of relief that washes over this complete stranger is rarely seen. “Thank you!” he says with tearful eyes.
