It\u2019s Sunday afternoon and we\u2019re gathering in the parking lot with a minibus full of excited Comenius boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We got a bunch of free tickets from Fradi. That\u2019s not something you pass on\u2014plus, we want to teach the boys how to cheer properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Fradi eagle makes its majestic circle at the center of the pitch. The bird\u2019s proud flight is truly impressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sight captures the boys as well. The teams are already lining up, and the boys are excitedly calling out the players\u2019 names.\n\u201cLook, it\u2019s Dibusz!\u201d\nHe sets up in the goal just 10 meters from us\u2014and doesn\u2019t make a single mistake the whole match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMr \u00c1d\u00e1m\u2026 \u2026 I\u2019m thirsty!\u201d\nMr \u00c1d\u00e1m\u2014the Comenius school\u2019s brilliant youth football coach\u2014digs around in his bag and finds a drink for the boy.\nJust as he turns his back, the crowd bursts into cheering again: 2:0. \nFradi takes the lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMr \u00c1d\u00e1m\u2026\u2026 I\u2019m hungry!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just before the third goal, here it comes again:\n\u201cUncle \u00c1d\u00e1m\u2026 I need to pee!\u201d\nOff they go\u2014and yep, goal again! Final score:\n3\u20130 to Fradi. Uncle \u00c1d\u00e1m didn\u2019t see a single one!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Well, that\u2019s just how it is: a teacher is always on duty\u2014even on the sidelines! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the best part is still to come\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We line up to head home. Mr \u00c1d\u00e1m carefully counts the kids, and the group starts walking toward the bus.\nThen I suddenly notice a little boy\u2014who doesn\u2019t quite look like one of ours\u2014 sneak into the line and join us.\n\u201cHold up!\u201d I shout. \u201cLet\u2019s count again!\u201d\nSure enough\u2014we\u2019ve got one extra!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the distance, I see a father craning his neck, clearly searching.\nI raise my arm and point at the little boy.\n\u201cIs it him you\u2019re looking for?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The wave of relief that washes over this complete stranger is rarely seen.\n\u201cThank you!\u201d he says with tearful eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
